As Silverwood Theme Park closes its gates for the season, something eerie starts to consume the empty streets, and darkness consumes the park. And in that week of dead silence, a new park rises from the ashes of what once was. Something terrifying, something so sinister that only your nightmares could grasp the fear creeping up behind those gates. And as the dead rise from their lumber, so does Scarywood.
So, what happens in that week leading up to the transition? Let’s just say, an organized chaos. Last-minute touches, such as lighting, fog, menacing sounds, and props, are all put into place. The haunts have been being built for months, but the little details are now being finalized. Every shadow, every hidey-hole, and every moving part is being tested. But the true gruesome magic begins as the night falls, the weekend before opening night. A mix of monsters and mayhem. The annual Scarywood Dry Run.
The haunters have auditioned, been hired, and have completed Scare School. Some are new, many are familiar faces, returning to the haunted nights of Scarywood year after year. And on this particular evening, they join together once again, one heartbeat, flatlining….to cease the night.
One by one, these innocent souls meet the Scarywood team of makeup artists, who specialize in the living dead. They are airbrushed and painted in colors like rotting flesh, bile, and old blood. And something happens in that chair. A monster grows from within, and the innocence is washed away. Scarywood’s makeup team complete over 200 monsters a night, all before the sun even sets.
As our monsters wander wardrobe to find their perfect ghoulish ensemble, a hanger with their name awaits them. A warehouse, now turned dressing room, becomes a walk-in closet for these creepy ghouls a place to add any final touches of their own. Now the time has come to meet backstage for what will become their nightly warmup, before picking up their mask, their contacts and their mouth goo.
On to Notes. Have you ever watched a zombie stretch? Or heard a clown do vocal warm-ups? This is where the monsters prepare for their hunt. And this is why you should be ready to scream. Growls ring out from the old airstrip as these feral monsters transform. Sinister laughs echo out through the crisp night. It’s almost time.
The dead have officially arisen. They scream out “Carpe Noctem!” And dry-run has begun. One by one, the monsters enter their haunts and scare zones, testing one another in a soft-opening of sorts to practice their hunting, jump-scaring, and scream-inducing skills. Emergency procedures are practiced one last time to ensure the safety of the living. As the night fades to morning, the monsters return to their dark corners and cracks, anticipating the opening of the Scarywood gates and the feeding frenzy to follow.
Do you have what it takes to survive the darkness of Scarywood Theme Park? The monsters are hungry and would love to play a little game of hide and seek with you. Join us, Fridays through Sundays, starting October 3rd through November 2nd (closed on Halloween night). Tickets are on sale now at scarywoodhaunt.com.
