You’ve packed the basics. Sunscreen? Check. Water bottles? Check. Kids? Hopefully also check.
You’re ready to take on a full day at Silverwood, roller coasters, water slides, and enough steps to count as a week’s worth of exercise. But here’s the reality: it’s not the obvious things that make or break your day… it’s the little, random items you didn’t think to bring that suddenly feel like absolute genius halfway through the trip.
So before you head out, here are the underrated, slightly unexpected, but completely clutch things you’ll be so glad you packed.

A Jacket or Sweatshirt (Yes, Really)
Let’s start with the one people always underestimate.
Even if it’s blazing hot during the day, once the sun starts to go down, it gets chilly, especially if you’ve been on water rides or hanging out at Boulder Beach. Kids go from “I’m fine!” to “I’m freezing!” in record time.
Having a sweatshirt or light jacket on hand saves you from either ending the night early or spending more money on something in the gift shop. Toss one in your bag, you’ll thank yourself later.

Towels for Boulder Beach
Renting towels? You can… but bringing your own is the move.
Not only does it save money, but it also gives you a reliable, dry place to sit and helps you claim a spot in the chaos of the water park. It’s one of those simple things that makes your day way more comfortable.
And here’s the real pro tip: when you’re done with Boulder Beach, just rent a locker. It’s cheap, easy, and 100% worth it so you’re not carrying around damp towels and extra clothes for the rest of the day.

A Small, Easy-to-Carry Bag
This is not the day for your oversized, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink bag.
Go for something small and lightweight, like a mini backpack or crossbody, that holds your essentials without weighing you down. You’ll be walking a lot, hopping on rides, and weaving through crowds. The less bulky your bag, the better your day will go.

“Power Pills” (a.k.a. The Candy That Saves the Day)
If you’re going with kids, this one is a game changer.
Bring a small stash of candy and rebrand it as “power pills” or “energy boosts.” Long line? Time for a power pill. Tired legs? Another boost. Suddenly, you’ve turned whining into motivation.
It’s simple, it’s fun, and it works way better than you’d expect. (Honestly, adults might benefit from this strategy too.)

An Extra Pair of Socks
This might seem random, until you need them.
Between water rides, splash zones, and kids who somehow get wet no matter what, soggy socks are almost guaranteed. Having a dry pair to change into feels like a luxury upgrade you didn’t know you needed.
Small item, big impact.

Cheap Sunglasses
Notice I said cheap.
You’ll take them off for rides, shove them in your bag, maybe even forget where you put them. There’s a decent chance they won’t make it home. So bring a pair you like, but not one you’ll be heartbroken over if it disappears.

A Portable Phone Charger
Between taking pictures, checking maps, looking up ride times, and texting your group, your phone battery doesn’t stand a chance.
A portable charger keeps you powered up all day, so you can capture the memories and still have enough battery to find your car at the end of the night. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you’re at 4% and stressed.

A Refillable Water Bottle
Staying hydrated is key but carrying a bulky bottle all day can get annoying.
A lightweight, refillable bottle, especially one that clips onto your bag or stroller, makes it easy to stay hydrated without juggling one more thing in your hands. Trust me, you’ll need it after all that walking.

Travel-Size Essentials
Full-size bottles are bulky and take up valuable space. Instead, bring travel-size versions of what you actually need:
These little items make it easy to freshen up throughout the day without overpacking.

Wipes… More Than You Think You Need
Sticky hands, melted snacks, mystery spills, you name it.
A small pack of wipes will get used more than you expect. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you really, really need it.

Final Thoughts: Pack Smart, Not Heavy
The goal isn’t to bring everything, it’s to bring the right things. Silverwood makes it super easy (and affordable) to rent a locker. So instead of dragging towels, extra socks, and jackets from ride to ride, you can:
It’s one of those small decisions that makes your entire day feel easier and way more enjoyable.
A well-packed bag can turn a good Silverwood day into a great one. You’ll spend less time dealing with little annoyances and more time enjoying the rides, the laughs, and the memories you came for.
And if nothing else, just remember this:
A hoodie at night and a well-timed “power pill” can fix almost anything.

Hi I’m Nichelle! I was born and raised in the Tri-Cities, Washington and graduated from Richland High School—go Bombers! After high school, I attended Columbia Basin College before joining the United States Air Force, where I proudly served in the medical field. My time in the military taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of serving others. After the birth of my first son, I made the decision to transition out of active duty so I could focus on raising my family while still supporting the mission. I continued working with the military as a civilian for seven years while growing my family and building my career.
Today, I’m a proud single mom to two amazing boys who keep life busy and exciting. I recently graduated with my master’s degree and currently work in cybersecurity at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Between work and school, my boys are the center of my world, and our schedule is often packed with their activities. They stay very active in sports, including football, basketball, and track, which means many evenings and weekends are spent cheering from the sidelines.
Even with our busy schedules, we make time for experiences that allow us to unplug and simply enjoy being together as a family. Silverwood has always been one of those special places for us. It’s where we can step away from our routines and create memories that my boys will carry with them just like I carried my own childhood memories of the park.
Being able to return to Silverwood now as a parent is incredibly meaningful to me. Watching my boys experience the rides, the waterpark, and the excitement of the park brings everything full circle. It reminds me of the joy I felt going there as a kid growing up in the Tri-Cities. Sharing that same magic with my children—and now sharing those moments with others—is something that truly makes me happy.
