How We Made the Most of a Rainy Day at Silverwood

You’ve bought your tickets, maybe traveled from out of state, and then Idaho decides to rain. It’s not ideal, but a little weather doesn’t have to ruin your day. Living in North Idaho, I’ve learned summer storms often come in short bursts, with sprinkles and only occasional downpours. Luckily, Silverwood has plenty of indoor options to avoid the worst of it: catch a movie, enjoy a tasty meal, or try your luck panning for gems at the Mine Shack. Here are some suggestions to make the most of a soggy day!

Embrace the Rain

First off, we absolutely recommend embracing the rain! Sure, you might get wet, but clothes can be changed and washed. Memories like these last forever. Nothing beats riding the Stunt Pilot with rain splashing in your face!

Boulder Beach

Even with a bit of rain, Boulder Beach usually stays open during the summer.  So be sure to pack a swimsuit, just in case! If it’s mostly cloudy and the temperature dips below the 70s, you might still brave the water park for a little while. We usually hop onto the Eagle Hunt for a fast introduction to the cold and afterwards hop into the lazy river for a quick warm up. We especially recommend Elkhorn Creek, it’s the warmest spot and a great place to relax even on cooler days!

What to Bring:

Be prepared for any weather! Consider packing the following essentials and using a locker to keep things dry: A waterproof cover for your stroller, hand warmers, extra clothing and socks, an umbrella and/or ponchos, a phone cover and maybe even a towel. In case you forget to pack any essentials you can usually find a replacement in the Silverwood souvenir stores.

What to Wear:

If possible, opt for waterproof clothing or a rain jacket, along with waterproof shoes to stay dry and comfortable throughout the day. Silverwood has ponchos available for purchase if needed. And Amazon has reusable waterproof shoe covers even!

Benefits of the Rain:

Rainy days often mean shorter lines and fewer crowds, so you can enjoy more attractions with less waiting!

Cons of the Rain:

In the chance of rain storms, or other severe weather conditions, some rides like Aftershock may be temporarily closed. The best time to visit the park to avoid rain is typically during July and August, when the weather is at its most reliable.

However, this is Idaho and even in July and August, there’s always a chance of rain. If you’d rather stay mostly dry, here are some great ways to take cover and still make the most of your day at the park.

Magic show

Step into a world of wonder with Phantasm, a 30-minute magic show filled with mind-bending illusions and impressive sleight-of-hand. It’s an immersive experience that will leave you captivated from start to finish. Pro tip: plan to enjoy a late lunch or dinner during the show and make the most of your time—two birds, one stone!

The Movie Theater

Whether it’s a chilly day or a scorcher at the park, everyone needs a break now and then. The movie theater is the perfect place to grab a snack and recharge. They offer classic treats like popcorn & drinks. And The Three Stooges play on a continuous loop, serving up nonstop laughter.

Mine Shack

Now’s your chance to be the cool mom and finally say yes to your kids’ nonstop request to visit the Mine Shack! Whether it’s your first time at Silverwood or your 10th year in a row, there’s a good chance your kids have begged to go gem mining at least once during every visit. It’s a fun, hands-on activity and the perfect way to spend time together, especially on those not-so-sunny days.

Lindy’s Restaurant

Looking for a full-service, sit-down restaurant that offers more than just chicken fingers? Lindy’s Restaurant is the place to go! Enjoy a full menu at your fingertips, all set in a charming Victorian-style atmosphere. Other great spots to duck out of the rain and grab a bite include Country BBQ and the ChuckWagon.

High Moon Saloon

Enjoy a lively musical performance by the talented Silverwood Entertainment staff, or catch Marvin and his friends in a fun-filled show the whole family will love. Even better, you can grab a bite to eat or sip on a drink while you enjoy the entertainment!

Retro Arcade

The Retro Arcade offers a variety of nostalgic games for all ages, including classics like Skee-Ball and Pinball.

Victorian Coffee House

Here, you’ll find something warm to sip on while you relax in a cozy, comfortable setting. Plus, get a caffeine boost to keep the energy high!

Shop for Souvenirs

Scattered throughout Silverwood are over ten gift shops, each offering a wide variety of items, toys, and clothing to choose from. If the weather turns chilly, you’ll find cozy blankets, sweatshirts, and even rain gear to keep you comfortable. No matter your style or interest, there’s a souvenir for everyone!

As you can see, there’s plenty to do throughout Silverwood while you wait for the heaviest downpours to pass. But if you’re planning a visit, especially if you’re coming from out of town, it’s always a good idea to be ready for a surprise summer storm. Pack some rain gear just in case, so a little weather doesn’t dampen your day!
