With the weather turning cold and dreary, we thought a little summer dreaming could get you through your day! We all know that it can get a bit toasty in summertime in the PNW, but there are plenty of ways to stay cool at Silverwood while still having an amazing time. Whether you’re looking for air-conditioned breaks, shady seating, or icy drinks, here are five of the very best ways to beat the heat at the park (that don’t have to do with Boulder Beach! Because, duh. That would be cheating!)
1. A Train Ride + To-Go Drink from Lindy’s
This is the ultimate mid-day cool down. Head to Lindy’s (the sit-down restaurant near the front of the park) and order a cocktail or a lemonade to-go. Then hop aboard a covered part of the train for a relaxing, shaded 30-minute ride through the park. Choose between A Trip to Yesteryear (which is a leisurely ride with fun facts and tidbits) or the entertaining Great Train Robbery show (which is the perfect combo of rest and entertainment!)
2. Lunch at Lindy’s
Speaking of Lindy’s… if you’re wanting a bit longer R&R session: grab a table inside Lindy’s for a full sit-down meal. It’s air-conditioned, quiet, and one of the most relaxing places to refuel in the park. Heads up: the burgers are fantastic, the fries are crispy, and it’s a great way to get out of the sun and recharge!
3. Magic Show + Dry Ice Mocktails at Cosmos Cantina
Step into the Theater of Illusions for a 30-minute, family-friendly magic show that’s insanely impressive. There are card tricks, illusions, and Vegas-style energy that kept my 5- and 6-year-olds (and me!) fully entertained from start to finish. Pro tip: grab a dry ice mocktail from Cosmos Cantina before the show (we loved the strawberry + coconut combo!). It’s bubbling, frosty, and a total crowd-pleaser.
4. Treehouse Play Area in Critter Camp
If you have younger kiddos, this one’s a lifesaver. The treehouse in Critter Camp is a shady, multi-level play structure that gives kids a chance to climb, slide, and explore while parents relax. There’s a covered seating area nearby that’s perfect for taking a breather while keeping an eye on the action. It’s nice for the kids to have something active to do, especially if they need a little stimulation break from the rides to get energy out!
5. High Moon Saloon + Marvin the Moose Show
Inside the High Moon Saloon, there is more than just cold drinks, food and air-conditioning: you can also find live music or a silly animatronic sing-along show. Marvin the Moose (plus his elk and bison friends) puts on a cheesy, endearing performance the whole family can enjoy. You can grab some lunch in the saloon (I was a big fan of the Monte Cristo panini and Bavarian pretzel sticks with sweet and spicy mustard!!) and then take a seat for the show.
BONUS: Okay, so I did the five non-Boulder Beach ones as promised. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about my ultimate place to beat the heat in the waterpark. Just inside the first bend of the lazy river is a float-up bar called The Cove. Here you can get a frozen margarita, pina colada or daiquiri (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), then hop back on your tube and lounge in full-relaxation mode in the lazy river. Well, as relaxing as your splashing kids will let it be!
Build these stops into your day to stay cool, keep everyone happy, and make the most of your Silverwood visit…without melting in the process!
