Making Memories With My American Hero

Being a North Idaho family, we are blessed with four seasons that are usually breathtaking! Winters here can be long and hard, but as such, we get excited and look forward every year to spring. It is a time when the snow melts, the flowers bloom, the sun shines and the birthdays and special holidays start.  We eat cake, buy presents, celebrate mom and look forward to long weekends, but there is one holiday that is very special to our family.

Memorial Day is a time to remember all of the fallen soldiers, policemen,  and firefighters that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and safety. Our family specifically is filled with servicemen for generations as far back as I can remember.  For us, we take this weekend to make a special day (and weekend with our Gold Pass) to go to Silverwood. They have made a commitment to honor all servicemen and women that have been in uniform for our country and our community from military to police and firefighters on Memorial Weekend.

Silverwood Theme Park, every year has honored our men and women of service with their American Heroes Weekend. May 25, 26, & 27 2019 – All military personnel, veterans, police officers and firefighters (identification required) Receive FREE admission to the park on these special event days and their immediate family members (spouse and children) also receive a special discounted rate. Enter the giveaway below for the chance to win FREE tickets!

We have so many amazing men and women who are our unsung heroes – who wake up each day and tie their boots, button their uniform and pin on their badge – not because they want recognition or for the paycheck, these American heroes do it for us. It’s the cops and detectives that keep fighting to find an answer – to protect the hurting, the abused, the missing. It’s the EMTs who arrived on a scene that fight for you in crisis, helping you survive the moment. It’s the firefighters that never think twice about running into your home – to risk their lives and stop at nothing to save you. And it’s the men and women who fight daily for our American Freedom. It is these men and women who put their own life aside for the moment to help you. Their sacrifices and their courage to be our American hero.

It is my husband who has led by example that anytime he sees a veteran, he will go out of his way to walk up to him and thank them for their service. He takes the time to hold a door open for them, buy them a meal at a restaurant, but most importantly, looks them in the eye and says “thank you”. Because of his great example, I now witness my young boys do the same. You can usually spot my kids in Wal-mart noticing a gentle old man who is generally wearing a baseball cap with patches or pins proudly displaying their veteran colors. My boys will break away from our walk and proudly and respectfully walk up to this man and look him in the eyes and say “thank you for your service, sir.” And every time, my eyes well up a little bit and my heart fills up with so much joy.

We are a proud military family with a history long running of brave men of our past who have fought for our country. So much so, that our boys want to continue for our freedoms. As much as it pains me to think of all the things they will have to do, see, and hear; I can’t help but to stand tall and pray that their bravery doesn’t wound my momma heart.

Spending a day with your family, belly laughing, screaming down roller coasters and enjoying the best funnel cake around,  is a great way to get the chance to tell the stories that have been handed down from generations of our heroes – local and nationwide, who stood strong and brave for us.   Spending the weekend at Silverwood gives our sons the opportunity to thank others that have served while we are in the park. From the young woman who fight fire, to the elderly gentleman enjoying the moments with his grand-kids, you can witness how this community has come together to honor brave men and women. We are grateful for this token of appreciation that is extended to our local servicemen and women in the military, police, and firefighters. – Thank you, Silverwood!

About the Author:

Hello! My name is Jackie. I am married to a handsome handyman, and I’m the proud momma of 5 kids. About 12 years ago, I started my photography business, Jax Creations Photography. Last year, I started a family website called Wanderful Memories. I use this site to share ways other families can document moments in life through travel and lifestyle. A fun fact about me is that I love to cook/bake for others, and I throw a great dance party in the kitchen (when no one is around to watch my awesome dance moves, of course)! There are many parts of Silverwood that I enjoy, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be riding the Tilt-a-Whirl with my boys. I love to hear them belly laugh! My family enjoys visit Silverwood multiple times during the summer with season passes — it is the perfect way to split up the summer days by visiting the water park or getting their adrenaline going on a roller coaster.
