“Mom..mom..mommy…mama”. Those infinite sounds of summer vacation! As much as I like to create a bucket list of things for our family to do in the summer, I also make sure to make time for myself and my friends personally. This summer, I have qualified to compete at one of my favorite competitions- National Showcase. It is the biggest event of the year for all of us skaters that love the stage lights and costumes. The competition is fierce, and you can only participate if you qualify. My skating friend and partners in crime, Sarah, and my amazing coach, Karin Watson, will be heading to Boston, Massachusetts, with our skates and creative costumes. We decided to celebrate a little early by having our own “mom day” at Silverwood.

After a successful morning practice, we bundled up and made our way to the park. My coach has not been to Silverwood for many years, so it was a special treat to take her around the park. Although she doesn’t do rides, she enjoys all the flowers around the park. She shared with us what each flower was as we passed by. Needless to say – she was in flower heaven!

Our first stop at the park was Lindy’s restaurant. After a good skating workout, we all wanted to stuff our faces with some delicious food, drink, and conversation. We all wanted so many things on the menu, and we had a hard time deciding what we wanted – it all looked so good! As we waited for our order and in between our conversations, that is when I noticed the drink menu and knew that at some point in the day, we were going to tingle our taste buds with a drink named the Stunt Pilot. – AFTER we ride the Stunt Pilot, of course.

After enjoying our delicious meal, we took a stroll around the park to show my coach all the beautiful flowers. I couldn’t even tell you all the flowers she knew, but she knew them all! And we did one of our favorite things (besides eating and skating) we did some window shopping. One of my favorite stores we visited was the General Stuff Mercantile store. I have somehow always skipped over that store, and it is my favorite! It is where I got my favorite sweatshirt I was wearing, too – plus some other fun sweatshirts I had to have. If you are a fan of bears and moose – this store will make you squeal with delight! So many cute figurines. We even spotted some moose that looked like they were skating.

I loved all the souvenirs that are in this store – creative magnets, keychains, t-shirts, jewelry, and more. Just outside the shop door was a hat rack with these fun squid hats. For the past 3 years, at every long-distance competition, we have had fun by doing a silly photo with a silly hat. Most of the time, that hat comes home with one of us. It has turned into a fun tradition!

The BEST perk of the day was relaxing in one of the reserved cabanas. I was expecting just one of the covered picnic tables that were reserved, but what it really was, was FREAKING AMAZING! As we checked in, we were escorted to our cabana, where we sat right in front of the wave pool- but giving us privacy. There was a table and chairs to sit at, play games, and eat food. 2 lounge chairs were there to enjoy the sunshine or a comfy place to take a mid-afternoon nap or sunbathe while reading a book. You also get a locker cabinet to store items and a mini fridge! But wait, there is more! You even have a personal concierge that will deliver your food and drink orders. And lastly, 2 Silverwood towels. The towels actually came in handy as a storm came in as we were leaving for the day.

Sarah and I were ready to get some rides under our belt for the day. We started at one of my favorite rides, the Tilt-A-Whirl. Such a simple ride, but it gets me belly-laughing. My coach doesn’t like to ride things even though she finds the thrill of ice skating. But she made sure to stand close by so she could giggle at us, trying to get our cart to spin faster. Fun fact – Karin was an Olympic pair skater with her twin brother!

Sarah is also a thrill seeker, and she wanted to show us how “relaxing” the Spin Cycle is. As Karin and I both laughed at her description of “relaxing,” we happily stood to the side to watch her spin around in the air. And oddly, she did look incredibly relaxed on that ride. The next thing on our list was to hop in a short line for the Stunt Pilot. This is my top 3 favorite rides at Silverwood. It is crazy to feel that anticipation of that first drop and then finally going down the drop. I found that it helps me to start screaming before the drop. Not too sure the person in front of me found it soothing, but hey – a girl gotta do what she needs! No matter how many times I try to “pose” for the camera as you fly through the barn, I never succeed. My face looks like it is in total fear, with tears streaming down my face from the wind. As we both laughed at our rollercoaster moment, we were quickly over at the merchandise and “ooh-ing” and “aww-ing” at the vintage style shirts, hats and the rad looking 80’s theme sweatshirts. Have I mentioned how much I like sweatshirts?! Now that we had completed The Stunt Pilot ride, it was time to make do with that Stunt Pilot drink we spotted at lunch. The pouring of our drink and the train departure lined up perfectly, so we boarded the lucky No. 8 engine train and enjoyed our drink and the train show.

To finish up our day, we headed back to the cabana as we let our body recuperate from training that morning and all the fun we had at the park. With an order of fries, we lay in the lounge chairs talking about our day, dreams, goals, and how much fun we had. We made plans to visit again after our competition in Boston – to hopefully celebrate all of us coming home with gold medals.

If you have never treated yourself to a day at Silverwood with your adult friends, you really should plan a day for yourself. It is a whole new experience, and even if you have ridden many rides with your kids, it will give you a fun – youthful experience as an adult. You can eat whatever you want, whenever you want, shop till you drop, enjoy the sun either by sitting by the pool with no worries or floating the river and enjoying a frosty adult beverage.

Enter for a chance to WIN 4 tickets for you and 3 of your friends OR maybe a double date with another couple you like to hang out with – to enjoy a day at Silverwood! I promise that you will LOVE it! Check it out below!

Meet The Conductor

Hello! My name is Jackie. I am married to a handsome handyman, and I’m the proud momma of 5 kids. About 13 years ago, I started my photography business, Jax Creations Photography. A couple of years ago, I started a family website called Wanderful Memories. I use this site to share ways other families can document moments in life through travel and lifestyle. A fun fact about me is that I love to cook/bake for others, and I throw a great dance party in the kitchen (when no one is around to watch my awesome dance moves, of course)! There are many parts of Silverwood that I enjoy, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be riding the Tilt-a-Whirl with my boys. I love to hear them belly laugh! My family enjoys visit Silverwood multiple times during the summer with season passes — it is the perfect way to split up the summer days by visiting the water park or getting their adrenaline going on a roller coaster.

Absolutely! While it’s great to take the grandkids and watch them enjoy rides and have fun, it’s an entirely different experience going with a group of senior ladies! We have a relaxing day together enjoying the park rather than rushing around and being crazy busy! Love it!
