Fun Family Competition: Boulder Beach Edition

One thing I have learned as a boy mom of 2 is that just about anything can be turned into a competition. So, it is not surprising when a fun family trip to Silverwood’s Boulder Beach turns into just that, a competition. Little did I know that there were so many ways to compete at Boulder Beach.

The most obvious competition, and first on our list, was Riptide Racer. Fun fact, this is my favorite ride at Boulder Beach. I am always trying to beat my best time. I suppose the kids didn’t get their competitive nature from just anyone!

Riptide Racer stands 60-feet tall and has over 400 feet of slide. It is a mat racing water slide that consists of 6 side-by-side racing lanes for you and all of your family and friends, or just other excited park guests! Riders ride down head-first from the starting gate, wind down twists and turns of slide, gaining speed, and then all the slides converge at the end.

But don’t worry about having to look around at the end to see how you placed, there is a scoreboard at the end of the ride that will tell you the exact time for each racer. It is a blast! Don’t think you are competitive? I bet this ride will change that for you!

Next up, Eagle Hunt. This ride was debuted last year, and if you haven’t tried it yet, it is a must! Eagle Hunt is the first dueling water coaster in the west and the longest in the USA. It is a raft water coaster and riders race against the clock as they slide through 3 high-speed flying saucers and get blasted UP 4 hills. Now this one is both of the boy’s favorite ride at Boulder Beach. So, naturally, we had to make this one a mom and dad vs kids race. We didn’t capture the moment, but the kids will tell you they won. But we all know the truth!

The final challenge was a fun one. Who can ride all 3 speed slides of Velocity Peak first? Now the thrill level on this one is High! And even mom is nervous about going down the slide that has only one single drop down. But the race was on. Also, on a side note, this is a good way to squeeze in a workout at the water park because each climb up to the top is over 100 steps!

Turns out, the kids are just faster than me and they definitely won this competition. And, even better for them, the stakes were set that loser buys everyone ice cream. So, it was off to Dessert Isalnd for some ice cream to end the day. My advice? Try the huckleberry soft serve ice cream. It is delicious!

So, next time you are at Boulder Beach, try to have some competition fun with friends and family. And of course, the stakes have to be that loser buys the ice cream! Have fun!

ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR

My name is Jessica. I’m a mom of two boys ages 9 and 11, and I’ve been married to my husband for nearly 14 years. In June of 2021 we decided to sell almost all of our belongings, buy a camper and some land, and move thousands of miles from anyone we knew to build our own family homestead. It’s been a wild adventure to say the least! If we’re not working on our land, you can find us out enjoying all that North Idaho has to offer. We love skiing (snowboarding for the boys), boating, fishing, hiking, and just everything outdoors! If you want to follow us along our journey, you can find us on instagram at PappyDaysRanch.
