As a mom, I’m always looking for activities that everyone can enjoy, not just my kids, but the grandparents too.
Finding something that truly appeals to multiple generations can be a challenge. Kids want excitement, parents want convenience, and grandparents often just want to spend quality time with their family without feeling like they’re slowing everyone down.
That’s one of the reasons I love Silverwood.
While most people think of roller coasters and thrill rides when they hear “theme park,” Silverwood offers so much more. It’s one of the few places where grandparents can genuinely enjoy the day right alongside their children and grandchildren, creating memories together instead of simply watching from the sidelines.
Something for Every Generation
One of my favorite things about Silverwood is that nobody has to feel left out.
Of course, there are plenty of thrilling rides for adventurous family members, but there are also attractions that grandparents can comfortably enjoy with their kids and grandkids. Whether it’s a scenic train ride, the carousel, a leisurely stroll through the park, or one of the many family-friendly attractions, there are opportunities for everyone to participate.
Some of my favorite family photos aren’t from the biggest roller coasters. They’re the candid moments of grandparents riding alongside grandkids, sharing laughs, and experiencing the park together.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not always about the biggest thrill, it’s about spending time with the people you love.
A Place to Slow Down and Enjoy the Day
Let’s be honest. Not everyone wants to spend twelve hours racing from ride to ride.
One thing Silverwood does exceptionally well is creating spaces where you can slow down and simply enjoy being there.
Throughout the park, you’ll find plenty of benches, seating areas, and shaded spots to relax. If grandparents want to sit and watch the grandkids ride, there are countless places to do so comfortably. And if everyone needs a break, it’s easy to find a place to rest, enjoy a snack, and recharge before heading to the next attraction.
The park itself is beautiful, with mature trees, flowers, and well-maintained landscaping that make it enjoyable just to walk through. Sometimes the best moments happen during those slower parts of the day when everyone is simply enjoying each other’s company.
If you’ve ever spent a summer day at an amusement park, you know how important shade can be.
Thankfully, Silverwood offers plenty of shaded areas throughout the park. Whether you’re taking a break between rides, enjoying lunch, or simply escaping the afternoon sun for a while, there are lots of comfortable places to cool down.
This is especially appreciated by grandparents, younger children, and honestly, tired parents too.
Accessible for Everyone
One thing I appreciate about Silverwood is how accessible it is for guests with mobility challenges.
Whether a grandparent uses a wheelchair, walker, scooter, or simply prefers a slower pace, the park is relatively easy to navigate. Wide pathways, accessible attractions, and a thoughtful layout make it easier for everyone to enjoy their day without feeling overwhelmed.
As families, we sometimes worry about whether a destination will be comfortable for older relatives. Silverwood does a great job making sure everyone can be part of the experience.
Take Time for the Shows
If you’ve read my previous blog posts, you know I’m a huge fan of the shows at Silverwood.
They’re not just entertaining, they’re also a perfect opportunity for multiple generations to enjoy something together.
Grandparents, parents, and kids can sit side-by-side, laugh together, and experience the magic without anyone needing to split up based on ride preferences.
Plus, it’s a great excuse to rest your feet, grab a snack, and enjoy some air-conditioned comfort while still making memories.
It’s About More Than the Rides
As both a daughter and a mom, I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful memories happen in the moments between the big attractions.
They’re found in shared meals, conversations while waiting for a ride, watching kids experience something for the first time, and hearing grandparents tell stories that somehow make every outing more memorable.
Silverwood provides the perfect backdrop for those moments.
The rides are fun. The food is great. The attractions are memorable.
But what makes a Silverwood day truly special is the opportunity to bring generations together.
Our kids won’t always remember how many rides they went on. But they’ll remember spending the day with Grandma and Grandpa or as we say, Mimi and Papa. They’ll remember the laughs, the stories, and the feeling of being together.
And honestly, that’s what makes Silverwood one of my favorite family destinations.
Because it’s not just a theme park. It’s a place where memories are made across generations.

Hi I’m Nichelle! I was born and raised in the Tri-Cities, Washington and graduated from Richland High School—go Bombers! After high school, I attended Columbia Basin College before joining the United States Air Force, where I proudly served in the medical field. My time in the military taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of serving others. After the birth of my first son, I made the decision to transition out of active duty so I could focus on raising my family while still supporting the mission. I continued working with the military as a civilian for seven years while growing my family and building my career.
Today, I’m a proud single mom to two amazing boys who keep life busy and exciting. I recently graduated with my master’s degree and currently work in cybersecurity at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Between work and school, my boys are the center of my world, and our schedule is often packed with their activities. They stay very active in sports, including football, basketball, and track, which means many evenings and weekends are spent cheering from the sidelines.
Even with our busy schedules, we make time for experiences that allow us to unplug and simply enjoy being together as a family. Silverwood has always been one of those special places for us. It’s where we can step away from our routines and create memories that my boys will carry with them just like I carried my own childhood memories of the park.
Being able to return to Silverwood now as a parent is incredibly meaningful to me. Watching my boys experience the rides, the waterpark, and the excitement of the park brings everything full circle. It reminds me of the joy I felt going there as a kid growing up in the Tri-Cities. Sharing that same magic with my children—and now sharing those moments with others—is something that truly makes me happy.
