Taking a multi-generational trip to Silverwood is a great opportunity to create lasting memories! We recently dragged Grandma to Silverwood, had an absolute blast, and everyone survived the day! However, when planning a trip with grandparents or extended relatives there are some additional factors that you should consider in your trip planning process! Grandma and Grandpa add an element of fun and special memories, but it also means going at a different pace than usual.
If your family is anything like mine, Grandma will be way more prepared than you and want a detailed, laminated itinerary of the day’s festivities. I guess being prepared never hurts! So here are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare for your upcoming trip.
1. Strategically plan the timing of your trip
Weather and crowd levels are huge factors in deciding when to visit Silverwood. I recommend trying to avoid the weekends and picking a cooler day of the week if able. However, if you can only go on a weekend and cannot plan for weather, no worries! Simply plan to allow time for more breaks and be sure to pencil in the Nick Norton Magic Show and a pit stop at the Main Street Theater. These are a great way to get out of the sun while still experiencing all that the park has to offer!
2. Find rides that even Grandma will love
I love that Silverwood has so many rides that everyone can enjoy. Whether a toddler or senior, there is plenty to enjoy together! Be sure to cater your ride plans to all generations present. Silverwood has a great collection of Low-Intensity rides to choose from, or maybe Grandma is a thrill seeker! In that case, take her to Roller Coaster Alley and get wild! Not interested in rides at all, Grandma’s are great stuff holders and picture takers. You can find a great description of rides and their intensity here:
3. Pace yourselves
Rest time is key! Consider a mid-day break a necessity! It’s okay to take a break from the action as needed and a meal is a great way to do this! Grab something to eat at one of Silverwood’s many dining options. Our personal favorite is Lindy’s. They are a full-service restaurant with a great menu and a view of the Steam Engine Train, another great activity that all will enjoy! And since you can’t eat all day, consider stretching your legs in the Elkhorn Creek Lazy River inside Boulder beach, or take a snooze in the shade of one of the Boulder Beach cabanas. If all else fails, don’t be afraid to split up! Grandma won’t be mad about some alone time with a frozen treat from the Cabana Cooler.
4. Find out what is on each family member’s “must-do” list
You never know what might be on everyone’s bucket list! I recommend getting each family member’s top three priorities and trying your best to work them into the agenda. This will also allow you to plan your attack prior to arriving at the amusement park.
5. Plan an efficient route
Silverwood has grown over the years and in order to fit in everything on your list, you must be efficient! Tackle one area at a time instead of hustling back and forth between attractions and do your homework in advance to factor in the items on the list that only run at certain times This will save everyone some energy and make the experience more enjoyable for all!
We had such a successful trip; we’re already planning our next visit and can’t wait to see what adventures Silverwood has in store for us when we return!

I have grown up watching this park evolve. The very first time I visited Silverwood, the only roller coaster was the Corkscrew. I was always mesmerized by the old-time western feel of Silverwood as a child. It was like going back in time or being in a movie!
