There’s something new in the air at Silverwood Theme Park, and it’s not just the scent of kettle corn and sunscreen. Phantasm: Under the Big Top is the park’s brand-new magic show, and it’s capturing the imagination of families, thrill-seekers and magic lovers alike.
If you’re anything like me you grew up LIVING for the Silverwood magic show. Every time I visit as an adult, I am immediately reminded of that little girl (me) from the late 1990’s that was pulled up on stage to be the magician’s assistant and afterwards rewarded with free cotton candy. Core memories are made in the Theatre of Illusion which is what makes it the perfect place to take a break from the rides, rest your feet, escape the heat or the rain, and enjoy a show!
This year’s magic show captures the magic and nostalgia that we’ve all come to know and love from years past and blends it with new circus flair, mesmerizing illusions and brilliant sleight of hand. From the moment Nick Norton stepped on the stage, the energy in the theatre shifted. He’s not your typical magician – he’s a true showman, blending illusion, comedy and audience interaction that had both kids and adults laughing, gasping and clapping along. At one point I thought my oldest daughter, age 7, was going to start crying from laughter. Now, even though a magician and his audience members never reveal Phantasm’s secrets, I will tell you that this particular moment had to do with some very mischievous furry friends and you will NOT want to miss it!
In addition to the new show, tucked inside the Theatre of Illusion you’ll find another new magical upgrade: Cosmo’s Cantina serving dry ice mocktails and cocktails in a variety of fun and flavorful options. I tried the Phantasm Myst (think creamy pina colada vibes with a smoky twist), while my mom went for a sweet strawberry mocktail. Both were absolutely delicious and extra enchanting thanks to the dry ice presentation. Huge shoutout to our magical mixologists, Atlas and Amy, for the stellar recommendations and spellbinding service. We also ordered our customary pepperoni pizza from the Pizzeria which always leaves me with yet another question, WHAT DO THEY PUT IN THAT SAUCE? It is that tasty!
Phantasm: Under the Big Top is more than just a show, it’s an experience. Whether you need a rest break or just love live entertainment, it’s a fantastic addition to any Silverwood itinerary. We had a party of 6 that included myself, my husband, our 7 year old daughter, our 3 year old daughter and Grandma and Grandpa. Each of us had a wonderful time which just goes to show that this is a magic show for the whole family to enjoy.
To get even more out of your visit, here are some of our family’s insider tips to help you make the most of your magical visit.
1: If you plan on grabbing a drink from Cosmo’s Cantina or ordering a pizza, arrive 20- 30 minutes early. It seems like a lot but I promise you, if you give yourself and your family that window it will ensure that you get the best seats, your meal and your beverages all in time for the show.
2: Make sure that everyone in your party uses the restroom about 10 minutes before the show begins. There are restrooms conveniently located to the left of the theatre and 10 minutes pre-show allows plenty of time for a quick bathroom break.
3: If you’re attending with kids 3 and under make sure to snag one of those aisle seats. Perfect for quick sneak aways in the event of any unplanned meltdowns or just movement breaks.
4: If you have any infants or children that are noise sensitive, make sure to bring noise canceling headphones. It can get a little loud in the theater at times.
5: Make sure to stay a few minutes after the show ends, Nick Norton and his lovely assistants are gracious enough to come out, sign autographs and meet and take photos with the kids and their families.
MEET THE CONDUCTOR
My name is Sydney Love. I am married, the mother of two sweet girls, and have one adorable border collie named Tucker. I love reading, writing, running, hiking, going on micro adventures and spending quality time with my friends and family. Family is EVERYTHING to me. All of my extended family resides in Washington and Idaho, and my immediate little family of 4 resides here in Montana- though it sometimes feels like we also live in Washington because we visit so frequently. I have been visiting Silverwood since 1995, if you can believe it! I took my first roller coaster ride on the Corkscrew with my late grandfather at the ripe age of 6 years old and I’m still convinced that he screamed louder than I did. It is such a cherished memory that I will never forget and carry with me always.
